We were glad to provide and install  2 Amarr Stratford 3000 pinch resistant garage doors for NBC's hit series Chicago Fire recently. Filming was performed on location on Chicago's north side. We are told the episode featuring these garage doors will air 04/03/2013. Without giving away the plot we can reveal that an individual is severely injured by one of the 2 garage doors and is found hanging from the garage door track. Maybe he should have followed all of those safety warnings on the label!

Amarr has announced a price increase of 5% on all garage door products effective 04/30/2012.  We will honor proposals written prior to 04/30/2012 for the time indicated at the bottom of the proposal (usually 45 days). Please contact us with any questions about how this may effect a proposal we have provided for your project.

Garage Door Co Repair Pros is still making pricing adjustments but expects to pass along most of this price increase.

Memo from Amarr - the single US distributor for Jeld-Wen garage doors:

Amarr has added to their residential garage door product line with the Vista full view glass & aluminum garage doors. Various glass types including frosted are available. These doors can be powder coated in numerous colors. For very modern looking houses we are seeing more customers considering this type of door (including the Avante door by Clopay). Literature is available on our website at www.gdcorp.com. Lead times can vary based on glass and frame styles from 3-6 weeks.

In order to prevent damage (rusting) caused by foreign matter adhering to the garage door, the door should be cleaned at least twice a year (normal environments) or 4 times a year (coastal environments). The garage door may need to be cleaned more frequently if road salt accumulates in a winter climate. The garage door should be wiped down with a mild household detergent and rinsed with clear water.

Note: Be sure to clean behind stop molding on the sides and top of the door.

We have been advised that the lead times for Amarr polyurethane garage doors (having an R value up to 13 !!)  remains at 2 to 3 weeks. This includes Olympus and Classica 3000 series garage doors. We are glad to see that the lead times still remain at this level as compared to Clopay (see prior post). We do have access to some Olympus doors in the most common sizes from Amarr regional center stock for immediate installation in the Chicago, IL area. Classica 3000 doors are always a special order due to the wide style configurations available.

As tax time approaches we would like to remind our customers who purchased new garage doors in 2010 that almost all of the  garage doors we sold last year qualify for the federal energy tax credit of up to 30% of material cost up to $1500. This includes garage doors from Clopay, Amarr and Jeld-Wen. Labor charges are not included.
