For years we have had residential customers request “the cheapest door you’ve got”. The next comment is usually something like -”I am selling the house” or “It only has to last a few years” or “Why would I need insulation - my garage is not heated”.In most cases they are looking for a 1 layer not insulated garage door for a detached, unheated alley or side drive garage. We have seen builders install these same cheap garage doors on an attached garage with living area above the garage door just to cut their costs.

Garage Door Co Repair Pros has been advise by Amarr (see below) that all medium woodgrain and dark woodgrain have been discontinued effective 6/21/2013. We have confirmed that replacement sections will NOT be available. Amarr is moving to a new dual direction woodgrain (similar concept to Clopay Ultragrain) moving forward. The new product is not available for order until the dates shown in the chart below.

Garage Door Co Repair Pros found out on 05/02/2013 that there was a production problem with Amarr dark woodgrain garage doors. Yesterday Amarr corporate made it official when they sent a dealer memo which said:

Garage Door Co Repair Pros has received an official announcement from Liftmaster (by Chamberlain) that the model 3280 1/2hp belt drive garage door opener has been discontinued. Rumors of this have been circulating for awhile but as seen below it is not official. In a move towards expanding the MyQ product line Liftmaster has replaced the model 3280 with the model 8355 which is a 1/2 hp belt drive with MyQ. The model 3280 was our most popular model since it was quieter than the chain drive (ie model 3255 or 3265) and was priced competitively.

Garage Door Co Repair Pros has received the following information from Clopay regarding the model 32A masonite (wood) garage door product. Below is quoted from the Clopay Marketing Bulletin.

Literature for the Clopay Premium series Ultragrain Medium and Cherry finish is now available on our website www.gdcorp.com

Although the Ultragrain was previously only available on the Gallery series door it is now available for the Premium series classic  raised panel (4300/4310/9130/9133/9200/9203) doors. The Ultragrain finish option is a popular choice to upscale from standard paint colors. We have a physical sample and addresses in the Chicago, IL area where these door can be viewed.

Like many Clopay dealers we were very disappointed years ago when Clopay switched from oil tempered to galvanized torsion springs for residential doors. They would not allow the doors to be ordered with the oil tempered springs even though they were available on a special order basis since the commercial doors were still be offered with the oil tempered springs. Garage Door Co Repair Pros has been supplying all doors and replacement springs as oil tempered for years and was requiring Clopay to remove the galvanized spring cost from every door order.

The new Liftmaster myQ opener models 8550 & 8360 and the Chamberlain and Craftsman DIY models maybe controlled by a smartphone. This feature is part of the internet gateway option (requires an annual subscription of $14.95/year). The first year of the subscription is included with the purchase. Today an update was available for Android devices. This update cannot be installed since it has an invalid code signing signature per Google.
